Fixing S-Posture for a Better Golf Swing

If your setup posture feels uncomfortable or restricts your rotation, you may be dealing with S-Posture — a common flaw that limits your swing potential and can affect your long-term health.

What Is S-Posture?

S-Posture happens when the lower body sticks out excessively while the upper back rounds forward. This exaggerated curve through the spine and pelvis creates stiffness and restricts your ability to rotate freely during the swing.

Why It Matters

When you're locked into S-Posture, your body can’t separate efficiently. This means reduced swing speed, poor mechanics, and a higher risk of injury over time.

How to Fix It

Start by correcting your posture at setup:

  • Hinge from your hip joints — not your waist
  • Maintain a neutral spine with balanced upper and lower body bend
  • Spend a few minutes each session finding a more athletic position through self-discovery

Once you’ve found a better posture, transition into a golf-ready stance and slowly introduce the club to reinforce the correct feel.

The Bottom Line

Spending just 10–15 minutes a day, a few times per week, working on posture can eliminate S-Posture quickly. It will improve your rotation, add speed to your swing, and help you play the game longer — and healthier.
